Arden has no way of knowing that on this night, there is a particular man in the audience. A man that could be her executioner or her greatest ally. When Virgil Holt, a local policeman, sees the show- he is curious. It’s not till later, till he and friend get a call about an incident at the magic show- that he begins to wonder, more and more about The Amazing Arden.

When fate intervenes and Virgil happens to capture Arden- he knows if he turns her in- she’ll hang. But, she killed a man- and that is the right thing to do. However, as the night wears on, Arden begins to tell a story. A story of her life- long before she came The Amazing Arden- a story that will make Virgil question down to his very core- what he needs to do- but even more, what his life is to be….

Does The Amazing Arden have one more trick up her sleeve? Or will this be the last show she ever performs?

 

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

So, I saw this months ago on Netgalley. At the time, I wanted to request it- oh how I wanted to request it. But, I held out because I was on a self-imposed ban on requesting till I had 85% review ratio. And then, as luck would have it- I wound up with a copy for review consideration.

When Rhiannon @ Ivory Owl Reviews and I were discussing this book as an option, we were both intrigued. I was enjoying the Water for Elephants comparison- and totally digging the cover. But, even more- the fact that Arden- no matter what her back story would be- seemed to be a woman to reckon with.

The story flowed beautifully. Each chapter ended with a tease, a line, something that would set the next chapter up beautifully (and make it almost darn impossible to set down- a fact that was highly inconvenient as I’ve been preparing for painters to give the rooms of the house a “facelift”. )

What I liked best: while Greer set things up very well- you wondered who the husband was, you wondered actually many things- in all her twists and secrets and turns- I never felt manipulated. I felt like Greer was a magician herself- setting this whole book into a show that you won’t figure out- till she is ready to reveal the inner-workings.

Bottom line: Go and get this book.
